The inner dongon was built three stories above the moat making any attacker scale three high stone turrets and walls. Of course, no castle was invincible, and in 1615, it fell to the Tokugawa forces. Hideyoshi's heir, Hideyori, committed suicide before being captures. In 1630 Tokugowa completely renovated the entire castle and built a new, larger dongon making the castle grander then the original. In 1665, the dongon was struck by lightning and burned down, never to be rebuilt.
